Wouldn't this be a prize piece for an opening night? The now famous Monarch Butterfly Dress is the finale piece from Seattle designer, Luly Yang's Metamorphosis collection! Believe it or not she had originally created the piece in paper while working as a graphic designer for an architecture firm. There was a competition to highlight the quality of fine paper products, and to best display the papers printing qualifications, Luly Yang chose to print the image of the butterfly and pattern the paper into a dress. Thus sprang to life her rendering of what is now known as the Butterfly dress and needless to say she won the competition. She then used fabric to create the actual Butterfly dress and her career as a couture designer was born.
I’m a designer of one of a kind bridal gowns in imported silks and laces. Chic began as an off shoot of Bride Chic, my online inspiration source for fashionista brides. Once I started covering cross topics like red carpet dressing and entertaining, the idea for Chic grew. I wanted to share all that I can with you about where to find off the beaten path designers as well as what new things the notables are creating . . .
I'm in love with fashion history and re-invention of the past. Other connections to fashion? I’ve been a columnist for San Francisco Art and Fashion News and written articles for The Wedding Gazette. I founded The Design Project of San Francisco, a networking organization of fashion professionals collaborating their skills and talents on projects.
I live in Marin County, California with my husband Edgar and Chihuahua Piccalina
